Join us for day of family crafts to celebrate RLWC
Free children’s activities will be taking place in warrington on Sunday, 16 October, to celebrate the Rugby League World Cup (RLWC) coming to town.
Families are invited to join Culture Warrington at New Art Spaces: Warrington (the former M&S in Sankey Street) between 11.30am and 4pm for a whole host of drop-in workshops themed around the environment, sustainability and caring for our planet.
Children can bring an old piece of clothing that they can upcycle, make crafts out of recycled materials, learn how to make create their own puppets and even help build a cardboard city plus much more.
All activities are free and available on a first come first served basis with no booking required.
All children must be accompanied by an adult but workshops can be adapted to suit the whole family.
THE WORKSHOPS
Poems to Change the World with Felicity Goodman:
Come create your own poem that celebrates the deliciousness of biscuits and promotes the sustainability of palm oil. The group will sketch a map of the rainforest, and create a Haiku on a postcard
Paper Puppetry with Thomas Daniel Byrne:
Learn how to build your own table top puppet out of recycled newspaper with Tom, who will also take you through the basics of puppet movement and manipulation. This fun, free workshop is open to anyone of all ages and abilities.
Cardboard City with Olivia Glasser:
What would you create in your dream city? Come along to this drop-in session to build, make and play, using recycled materials and children’s cardboard construction tools.
Upcycling with Sophie New:
Bring down that bobbly top or that bag with a hole in and Sophie will help you fix it up and make it fabulous again with a mixture of different and easy processes.
Help with anything from quick fixes like stitching a pocket back on, repairing a hole, adding a cool design to speedy reworks, you’ll be walking away with what feels like a new item which feels extra special as it has been reworked or upcycled by you. Add a spring to your step knowing you helped the environment!
Sound Waves with Sarah Harris:
Create your own work of art using the Reshape5000, a Harmonograph built from recycled materials. The instrument draws pictures of musical harmonies, linking light and sound. Simple to operate, it can be used by all ages. Adjustments to the machine allows for unique images to be created every time.
Nature Weaving with Erica Wilkinson:
Create your own woven masterpiece using natural materials. Using twigs and sticks as a frame, families can weave their own webs using cotton and wool. Adding individual flares by weaving in colourful scraps of materials and maybe even leaves and pine cones. Take it home with you to hang in a tree in your garden, put in your house as a decoration or hang it above your bed as a dream catcher to catch and keep hold of all of your lovely dreams.
